Installing and Removing a VEX IQ (1st gen) Controller Radio

Step 1: Gather the required components.

Gather the following items:

  • VEX IQ Controller
  • 1 VEX IQ Radio
  • Phillips screwdriver

NOTE: The Controller firmware must be updated to the most recent version for the Radios to work properly. Click here for a procedure to update firmware.

NOTE: It does not matter which type of Radio is used as long as the Radio in the Controller is of the same type as the Radio in the VEX IQ Robot Brain. Matching Radios are needed for proper wireless connectivity. Click here for more information about VEX IQ Radios.

Step 2: Insert the Radio into the Controller.

Slide the Radio into the Radio socket. Orient the Radio so the VEX logo faces the top of the Controller. Press in firmly until it fully clicks into place.

NOTE: If the Radios are removed often, it is better if the Controller Battery door is removed before the Radio is inserted to avoid stressing the plastic retaining latch.

NOTE: The Controller will support any of the three types of Radios.

Step 3: Remove the Radio from the Controller.

Remove the Controller Battery door using a Phillips head screwdriver before attempting to remove the Radio.

Pull firmly on the Radio to remove it once the Controller Battery door has been removed.
