VEX provides digital engineering notebook templates for both VEX IQ Robotics Competition and VEX V5 Robotics Competition teams. These templates gives a starting point for documenting their work while still allowing each team to make the notebook their own.

Select the template that matches your competition program and preferred format: Google Slides or Microsoft PowerPoint.
When you open a Google Slides template, you will be prompted to make a copy. This creates an editable version of the notebook in your own Google Drive. PowerPoint templates can be downloaded and saved to your preferred location.

How to Use the Templates
The templates are designed to help students begin documenting their work without starting from a blank page. Each template includes common notebook pages that teams can use, duplicate, rearrange, or adapt as needed.
Templates may include:
- A cover page for team and season information
- A table of contents page to help organize entries
- Grid pages in multiple scales for sketches and design planning
- Lined and blank pages for notes, reflections, and explanations
- Field layouts with starting objects and movable objects for strategy planning
Example notebooks are also available to help teams understand how different page types can be used. These examples include guidance for getting started, sample entries, and ideas for collaborating in a shared digital notebook.
Teams can also use Digital VEX Parts to add robot components directly into their notebooks. These part images include common IQ and V5 wheels, gears, structure pieces, electronics, and other components. Parts are available in multiple scales and views so students can use them in sketches, design plans, and mechanism explanations.
Students should update the notebook regularly as they build, code, test, and improve their robot. Short, consistent entries are often more useful than long entries written after the fact.
