Legacy - Selecting a Pneumatics Kit for the V5 System – VEX Library

There are four Pneumatics Kits available for the V5 system.

Pneumatics Kit 1 - Single Acting Cylinders
Pneumatics Kit 1A - Single Acting Cylinder Add-On
Pneumatics Kit 2 - Double Acting Cylinders
Pneumatics Kit 2A - Double Acting Cylinder Add-On

Single Acting Cylinder Kits

Single acting pneumatic cylinder piece.

The single acting cylinder kits feature single acting pneumatic cylinders. The advantage of these cylinders is that a spring forces the rod to retract after the air is released from the cylinder, therefore the cylinder does not use as much air for each cycle of extending and retracting.

The Pneumatics Kit 1 - Single Acting Cylinders contains all of the components necessary to create a complete system to control two single acting pneumatic cylinders.

The Pneumatics Kit 1A - Single Acting Cylinder Add-On contains all of the components to add an additional single acting pneumatic cylinder to your system.

This kit cannot be used as a stand alone item. It needs to be used with either a Pneumatic Kit 1 or a Pneumatics Kit 2 in order to function.

Double Acting Cylinder Kits

Double acting pneumatic cylinder piece.

The double acting cylinder kits feature double acting pneumatic cylinders. The advantage of these cylinders is that when the rod is extending it does not have to overcome the force of the spring which is found within the single acting pneumatic cylinders. In addition, the rod is pushed back in (retracted) by the air pressure. This means it is possible for the double acting cylinders to produce more force in both directions than the single acting pneumatic cylinders.

The Pneumatics Kit 2 - Double Acting Cylinders contains all of the components necessary to create a complete system to control two double acting pneumatic cylinders.

The Pneumatics Kit 2 contains two flow meters and an on-off switch which is not found in the Pneumatics Kit 1

Additional Parts

Solenoid Driver Cable piece.

Solenoid Driver Cable (2-pack) contains two solenoid driver cables for replacement should an original Solenoid Driver Cable become damaged.

Pneumatic tubing piece.

Additional pneumatic tubing is available to allow you to separate your pneumatic components with larger distances.
