Troubleshooting Error Messages in the Classroom App for VEX 123

Using the VEX Classroom App is easy, but you may encounter minor issues from time to time. If there is a problem when connecting, updating, locating, or renaming a VEX 123 Robot with the VEX Classroom App, an error message will appear. This article will help you identify the error message and describe what to do, so you can quickly resolve the issue and continue working with your robot.

Error Message When Connecting to a 123 Robot

VEX 123 Robot fails to connect - Connection Error

VEX Classroom App error prompt that reads Connection Error, Unable to connect to VEX 123 Robot. Please check that your VEX 123 Robot is on and not connecting to other devices and try again. The prompt has a blue Ok button below.

Description

  • Connection Error will display if a 123 Robot is selected in the list, but fails to connect.
  • This could be caused by one of the following reasons:
    • 123 Robot has been turned off while connecting.
    • 123 Robot is out of Bluetooth range of the App.
    • 123 Robot is connected to another device.

Solution

  • Make sure that the 123 Robot is turned on, charged, and within Bluetooth range.
  • If it is connected to another device, disconnect the 123 Robot from that device and reconnect with the Classroom App.

Error Messages When Updating Firmware on a 123 Robot

You may encounter one of the following error messages when updating firmware on a 123 Robot with the VEX Classroom App. Use this section to identify what is causing the error and how to resolve it.

Lost Bluetooth connection during an update - Update Failed

Description

  • If the 123 Robot powers off or loses connection by going out of Bluetooth range during the update process, this message will display.

Solution

  • Make sure that the 123 Robot is turned on and in range, then select ‘Update’ and try again.
  • Stay close enough to be in Bluetooth range during the update.

Update failed due to App suspension - Update Failed

Description

  • If you switch to another App, or your device locks during an update, you will get this message.

Solution

  • Unlock your device, open the Classroom App, and select ‘Update’ again.
  • Make sure to keep the Classroom App open during the update.

Update failed due to an unknown error - Update Failed

Description

  • If your device or the 123 Robot experiences an unknown problem during an update, this message will appear.

Solution

  • Power cycle the VEX 123 Robot (turn it off and on again), then try the update again.

Battery level is too low to update - Low Battery

VEX Classroom App error prompt that reads Low Battery, The VEX 123's battery is too low to perform an update. Charge the VEX 123 and then attempt the update again. The prompt has a blue Ok button below.

Description

  • If you try to update a 123 Robot, but the battery level is too low, this message will display.

Solution

  • Charge the battery, and retry the update once it is fully charged.

Error Messages When “Updating All Devices”

There are two error messages that you may encounter when ‘Updating All Devices.’ The following section identifies what causes these errors, and describes how to resolve them while updating multiple devices simultaneously.

One or more VEX 123 Robots do not update due to low battery or being out of Bluetooth range- Update Failed

VEX Classroom App error prompt that reads Update Failed, The following devices failed to update. Please make sure they are all in range and fully charged, then try again. The prompt has a list of each robot that failed to update, and a blue Ok button below.

Description

  • You will see this message if one of the following happens while bulk updating:
    • One or more of the 123 Robots is out of Bluetooth range.
    • A battery is too low to update on one or more of the 123 Robots.
  • Note: The message will appear after the update, and will list only the 123 Robots that failed to update. All other 123 Robots updated successfully.

Solution

  • Make sure all the 123 Robots listed are in Bluetooth range and fully charged.
  • Then, select ‘Update All Devices’ again. Be sure to stay in Bluetooth range during the update.

Update failed on all 123 Robots due to App suspension - Update Failed

Description

  • If you switch to another App or lock your device during a bulk update, you will get this message.
  • Note: App suspension will stop the update on all devices in a bulk update.

Solution

  • Re-open the Classroom App, select ‘Update All Devices’ again.
  • Be sure to keep the Classroom App open and do not lock your device during the update.

Error Message When Renaming a 123 Robot

You may encounter this error message when renaming a 123 Robot with the VEX Classroom App.

Classroom App fails to rename a 123 Robot - Failed to Rename

Description

  • This message will appear after typing in a new name if one of the following things happens while you are renaming:
    • 123 Robot gets disconnected.
    • 123 Robot goes out of Bluetooth range.
    • Your device locks during the renaming process.

Solution

  • Make sure you are in Bluetooth range and reconnect the 123 Robot.
  • Then, try renaming again.

Error Message when Locating a 123 Robot

You may encounter this error message when locating a 123 Robot with the VEX Classroom App.

Classroom App fails to locate a 123 Robot - Failed to Locate

  • This message will appear if the 123 Robot gets disconnected or goes out of Bluetooth range while you are locating.
  • It will also appear if your device locks while you are locating.

Solution

  • Make sure you are in Bluetooth range and reconnect to the 123 Robot.
  • Then, try locating again.

Error Message when Saving Settings on a 123 Robot

You may encounter this error message when updating settings on a 123 Robot with the VEX Classroom App.

Classroom App fails to update settings for a 123 Robot - Failed to Save Settings

Description

  • This message will appear if the 123 Robot gets disconnected or goes out of Bluetooth range while you are updating settings.
  • It will also appear if your device locks while you are updating settings.

Solution

  • Make sure you are in Bluetooth range and reconnect to the 123 Robot.
  • Then, try selecting and saving settings again.
