Using the VEX Classroom App

The VEX Classroom App is a useful tool that allows you to get started quickly. The app can be used to easily update GO Brain Firmware, including updating multiple robot brains at one time. You can also use it to rename GO Brains, monitor battery life, and monitor sensor data in real time!

Navigate to your device’s app store and search for ‘VEX Classroom’ to download the app if you have not already done so.

Getting Started

When you open the VEX Classroom App,  you will see an image of Colonel Jo explaining the purposes of the app.

Select 'Scan for Robots/Coders' to begin.

 

Updating the GO Brain Firmware

The firmware on one or multiple GO Brains can be updated at a time using the VEX Classroom App.

Renaming a GO Brain

To rename a GO Brain, select the Brain that is to be renamed.

Enter the Brain’s new name. Note that only letters, numbers, and spaces are accepted. Names are limited to 7 characters and any characters above 7 will be automatically removed. Once finished, select ‘OK.’

Locating a GO Brain

A GO Brain can be located using the app. The location feature identifies a specific Brain by making the button on top of the Brain turn yellow.

To locate a GO Brain, select the Brain that is to be located.

A list of options will appear. Select ‘Locate.’

The GO Brain icon and name in the app will flash yellow.

Once the specific GO Brain is located, the button on top of the Brain will turn yellow, as shown in this animation.

Once the location has ended, the Brains’ name and icon will now show green in the app and the button on top of the Brain will remain solid green.


 

Monitoring Battery Life

The state of each GO Brain’s Battery is listed. This can be used to monitor the Battery life of one or more GO Brains within range.

Note that the Battery life will not appear if a Brain is not up to date.


Monitoring Sensor Data

To view a particular robot's sensor data, select the Brain of that robot.

Data for each connected device is displayed in the 'Reading' column. This information can be used to see how these devices are performing and can be helpful when troubleshooting. For more information, view the Using the VEX Classroom App to Troubleshoot your GO Robot article.

To hide the device information, select the 'Hide Device Info' button.

Accessing Help in the VEX Classroom App

The Help feature in the Classroom App can be accessed from the Splash Screen as well as the Scanning Screen by selecting 'Help'.

The Help feature will link you to articles that provide additional information. Select the desired article.

The selected article from the VEX Library will be displayed. To return to the VEX Classroom App, navigate to the home screen on your device, and then to the Classroom App.

To return to the Scanning Screen from the Help feature, select 'Back'.
