Sales Tax-Exemption for Online Purchasing (USA)

Before Placing Your Online Order or Quote:

  • Sales tax exemption forms must be submitted and approved before placing sales tax-exempt online orders or quotes. Orders placed prior to the approval of your exemption status are not eligible for a sales tax refund.*
  • If you encounter issues placing an order, please contact VEX Support (support@vex.com) before submitting your order.

Creating Your Online Account:

  1. Each online purchaser must create their own account using their own unique email address. We currently do not offer “shared” online accounts (i.e., accounts for multiple purchasers within a school or school district). Click here to create a new account or go to vexrobotics.com

  1. If you have made online purchases with us in the past and you do not see an approved sales tax-exempt status within your online account, you will need to complete the process outlined on these pages.
  2. The billing address you enter for your online account must match your sales tax-exemption documents.

 Submitting Your Sales Tax-Exemption Document:

  1. Gather your relevant sales tax-exempt identification information. Depending upon your state, this may include a Sales Tax-Exempt Form, a TAX ID# (TIN/EIN), and/or a Sales Tax-Exemption Number.

*Note: If you place an order before your account is set as sales tax exempt you would need to request a refund through your state or exemption entity.

  1. While logged into your account, select “Tax Certificates” from your account Dashboard. Here, you will upload your sales tax-exempt document or sales tax-exemption details. Your certificate must be filled out completely for it to be considered valid. The address on your sales tax-exemption documents must match the billing address you entered for your online account.

  1. After submitting, you will receive an email notification confirming your status. You can also log into your account at any time to view the status. Please note that after submission, the sales tax-exemption request goes through a review process which may take up to four business days to complete.
  2. Once approved, you can submit sales tax-exempt orders, or quotes, for processing.
