Keeping firmware up to date ensures that your VEX AIM Coding Robot performs as intended. Your robot's firmware can be updated within VEXcode AIM. This article will walk you through how to update your robot's firmware in VEXcode AIM. 

Note: To update firmware on the robot, a wired connection with a USB-C cable is needed. To connect to the robot with a wired connection, see this article.

Turn on the robot and plug it into your device with the USB-C cable. In VEXcode AIM, select the Robot icon.

If you are using app-based VEXcode AIM, the robot will automatically connect.

If you are using web-based VEXcode AIM, select Connect via USB, to connect your robot to VEXcode AIM. For more information about wired connecting to VEXcode AIM, view this article. 

A prompt reads Your VEX robot's firmware is out of date and needs to be updated. Do you want to update now? The blue Update button is highlighted, indicating that should be selected to begin updating.

If the robot's firmware is out of date, a prompt will appear asking you to update.

Select Update.

A progress bar is shown that reads Updating Firmware, and alerts the user to Keep VEXcode's tab active or else firmware updates will fail.

A progress bar will appear. Wait for the progress bar to finish. Do not close VEXcode AIM until the update is completed. 

You will also see progress bar indicators on the robot's screen. 

A completed progress bar is shown and the prompt reads Update Complete! Please restart your VEX robot and reconnect to VEXcode AIM.

Once the firmware is updated, a prompt will instruct you to reconnect your robot to VEXcode AIM. 

Select OK. 

Unplug the robot from the USB-C cable and reconnect your robot.

Reconnect to VEXcode AIM. Now the Robot icon will show green, indicating that the firmware is up to date.
