Connecting VEX AIM to VEXcode AIM - Wireless

To begin coding the VEX AIM Coding Robot, you'll first need to connect it to VEXcode AIM. Below are the steps for connecting and disconnecting the robot via a Bluetooth connection.

Connect to a Robot

The back of the robot with the power button called out. The button is on the back of the robot beneath the port for a USB-C cable.

Turn on the robot by pressing the power button on the back of the robot.

Open VEXcode AIM.

Both web-based and app-based VEXcode AIM can be used when connecting to a robot via Bluetooth.

Select the Robot icon in the top right corner.

Select Connect via Bluetooth from the menu.

App-Based VEXcode AIM

A prompt reads Select a VEX robot and shows two options. The top option reading AIM8489 is highlighted.

A dialog box shows AIM8489 in a list of devices to pair to. It is highlighted.

A window will open showing the available robots. This will vary depending on the version of VEXcode AIM you are using. Select your robot.

App-Based VEXcode AIM

The same prompt as previous, with AIM8489 selected and the Connect button highlighted, indicating what to press to connect to that robot.

Web-Based VEXcode AIM

The Pair button at the bottom of the dialog box is shown and higlighted indicated what the select to connect to the robot.

Then, select Connect or Pair.

A radio connection code prompt is shown that reads Enter the 4-digit Radio Connection Code displayed on the VEX robot, with an empty dialog box to enter the numbers into.

If this is the first time you have connected the robot to this device, a pop-up will appear in VEXcode AIM. This will prompt you to input a code on your robot's screen.

The robot screen is shown with a prompt that reads Bluetooth ID 5938.

The 4-digit code will appear on the screen of the robot. Note that this will be specific to your robot. The image shown here is an example of a 4-digit code.

Once you have input the code, select the Submit button.

The menu of available robots to pair with reads codeaim.vex.com wants to pair, and the robot name AIM 8489 is highlighted in a red box.

If you have previously connected the robot to this device via web-based VEXcode AIM, you will see "Paired" next to the robot's name in the Bluetooth connection window.

Select this option then Pair to connect the robot to the device via Bluetooth.

The Robot menu in the VEXcode Toolbar is open and the line reading Bluetooth Connection Connected is highlighted.

The Robot icon in the top left corner will now appear green. Now when the Robot icon is selected, the  Bluetooth Connection option will read Connected.

The robot's screen shows the Drive icon and the solid green bluetooth symbol in the upper left corner, indicating a successful connection.

The Bluetooth icon on the robot's screen will also turn green to show Bluetooth is connected.
