Viewing the EXP Brain Event Log in VS Code

The Event Log on the VEX EXP Brain can be used to help troubleshoot issues by providing valuable diagnostics information. The Event Log includes information such as project execution, project download, or project stop actions. It also records hardware events such as the VEX Controller losing link to the Brain, a Smart Device being disconnected, and any battery notifications.

How to upload the EXP Brain Event Log in VS Code

  • Connect the Brain to the VEX VS Code Extension. Click on the VEX icon on the Activity Bar.

  • The VEX view will open in the Side Bar. Hover the mouse over the VEX Brain Icon or the Brain text under VEX DEVICE INFO in the VEX view.

  • The icons will appear next to the Brain text. Click on the Event Log Icon.

  • The Save As window will prompt. Type a name for the Event Log file in the File name Text Box and click on the Save Button.

    Device's file management program is open and set to save to the Downloads folder. The new file's type is .vexlog and it has been named Event Log. Below, the Save button is highlighted.
  • The Event Log file will be saved on the computer and will be opened in the Editor area of the VS Code.

    VEX Brain's Event Log is shown opened in VS Code from the user's Downloads folder. The Event Log shows a message with a time stamp each time the Brain is powered on or off, or when a program starts.
