Due to Google's decision to discontinue support for Chrome Apps on Chromebooks starting January 2025, all Chrome Apps will no longer be visible in the Chrome Web store and will be unable to function. This change is beyond our control at VEX, but we're committed to ensuring a smooth transition for our users.
While the VEXcode GO App will be available for use up until Google removes all Chrome Apps from the Chrome Web Store, we strongly recommend making the move to Web-based VEXcode GO well before this deadline. Rest assured, Web-based VEXcode GO has all the capabilities and functionality of the App-based version. We understand that changes can be challenging, which is why we've prepared this comprehensive guide explaining any differences between the Web-based and App-based versions of VEXcode GO.
Changes to Expect in Web-based VEXcode GO
Renaming a Project
In Web-based VEXcode GO, clicking the project name won't start saving a new file like it does in the app. To rename a project, follow these steps:
1. Select the project's name to open the Project Name window.
2. Change the name of the project to enable the Save button.
Selecting Save opens a dialog box similar to using Save As in the File menu.
Identical Features in Web-based VEXcode GO
VEXcode GO has many features that work the same in both the web and app versions. Here's a list of features that function the same in both.
Updating the GO Robot's Firmware
Once you have connected a GO Robot to VEXcode GO, the robot's icon will turn orange if the firmware needs an update. Web-based VEXcode GO will automatically update the firmware, exactly as it does in the app version.
Saving a Project to Your Device
Saving a project to your device works the same in both Web-based and App-based VEXcode:
- Click File in the menu.
- Choose either Save or Save as.
- Select the location on your device where you want to save the project.
- Name your file and click Save.
- After this initial save, the project will continuously autosave from this point onward.

Opening a project from your device works the same in both Web-based and App-based VEXcode:
- Select File.
- Select Open.
- Select the file that you want to open in VEXcode GO.
- Select Open.
Any projects saved from App-based VEXcode GO will be able to be opened in Web-based VEXcode GO with no changes or extra steps required.
